Itinerario
After breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up in our transport to go to the place where we will begin our tour.
Before starting the ride we will have an explanation of the world of horse riding and the characteristics of the Peruvian Paso horse, after a demonstration of how to ride a Peruvian Paso horse we will have some time to familiarize ourselves with our respective horses to begin our ride through spectacular landscapes and panoramic views.
The Piuray Lagoon Place where we will begin our adventure; it supplies water to the city of Cusco since the time of the Incas who brought their waters to the Imperial City through underground aqueducts.
Likewise, the Piuray Lagoon holds in its waters an ancient legend in which the Sun God asked Manco Capac that his twin sons accompany him in his twilight and when the time came, they discovered that the son who walked the furthest had become the Huaypo lagoon and the daughter the Piuray lagoon. We will also be able to observe the migratory birds that arrive at this lagoon.
After touring the shores of the lagoon, we will head past the town of Chinchero to the viewpoint of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. From there we will have a spectacular view of a large part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the sacred mountains such as Pitusiray, Sahuasiray, San Juan and the imposing Chicon. Then we will head towards the beautiful Huaypo lagoon, with crystal-clear waters and rich in a great variety of fish, which is located 44 km from the city of Cusco.
According to legend, the Sun God asked Manco Capac that his twin sons accompany him in his twilight. When the time came, they discovered that the son, who walked the furthest, had become the Huaypo lagoon and the daughter the Piuray lagoon.
Throughout the walk, you will enjoy the natural beauty of the region for its varied flora and fauna in which migratory and native birds stand out. You will also learn about the agricultural activities carried out by the farmers in the area.
Once we have completed the tour of the shores of the lagoon and its surroundings, we will set up our campsite on the shores of the Huaypo lagoon. Depending on the time of year, we can make a campfire.
The sunrise on the shores of the Huaypo lagoon will allow us to enjoy a beautiful view of the sunrise on a cool and relaxing morning; After having our breakfast we will continue our journey towards the C. C. of Misminay passing through other peasant communities and beautiful places; after a long journey on our horses we will arrive at the community; where we will have the interaction with its inhabitants who will show us their way of working in agriculture and textiles. Where we will also be able to visit their traditional homes.
Tonight we will sleep in the peasants' houses which are equipped to receive tourists who want to have a rural tourism experience.
In the morning, after having breakfast and enjoying the beautiful sunrise, the women of the community will teach us the secrets of their textile industry by demonstrating the process of shearing the wool, dyeing, etc. After sharing pleasant moments with them and saying goodbye, we will begin our ascent towards the Wañyn viewpoint, located at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level. From there we will have an impressive and panoramic view of all the mountains of the sacred valley such as the snow-capped Verónica, El Chicón, the snow-capped Ausangate and the entire plateau of Maras and Chinchero (it is recommended to bring binoculars). Then we will descend towards Moray. Moray is an important archaeological complex in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, one of its most interesting attractions being the Inca agricultural “greenhouses” or “laboratories” consisting of circular terraces built in large holes that were used to preserve seeds and crops. After visiting the archaeological complex of Moray, we will have a picnic, a quiet and relaxing place from where you have a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains and the Urubamba mountain range. Then we will continue our journey to the salt mines, passing through the town of Maras. Along the way we will observe the agricultural activities of the farmers of the area.
Continuing the journey we will arrive at the salt mines, located 40 km from the city of Cuzco and at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level, which constitute a large area of salt extraction for human consumption dating back to pre-Columbian times. These mines are made up of around 3,000 natural pools of salt water, about 5 m2 in size, located on the slopes of the hills and you can still see the ancestral method for obtaining salt. The salt mines represent an important source of work for the inhabitants of Maras and other nearby towns.
After visiting the salt mines we will continue our journey towards the Vilcanota River until we reach the Pichingoto Bridge, where our transportation will be waiting for us to return to the hotel.
