Full day horseback riding

Early in the morning at the hotel after an explanation of our tours and delivery of the respective material such as: The program, the contract and conditions of service; we will pick you up in our transport to the town of Maras, passing through the Chinchero plateau and spectacular landscapes.
Our horseback ride begins on the Maras branch towards the Tiobamba Temple from where you have an impressive panoramic view of the entire Urubamba mountain range, then we will go to the town of Maras, a district located at 3,465 meters above sea level, 46 km from the city of Cuzco, famous for its salt mines and its ancestral method of obtaining it, as well as for its colonial doorways. There you will enjoy a panoramic and impressive view of the Urubamba mountain range and the snow-capped mountains such as El Chicón, La Verónica and Puma Huanca, among others, which rise along the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
From Maras we will continue our journey through beautiful landscapes surrounded by mountains and marked by the agricultural and livestock activity of the local peasant. After an hour and a half of walking, approximately, in which we will have traveled 7 km. to the southwest, we will arrive at the archaeological site of Moray at 3,385 meters above sea level.
Moray is located 38 km. northwest of the capital of the Inca Empire. It is also known as the Inca agricultural “laboratory”, for the way in which this civilization adapted the different agricultural species and preserved the crops. It is famous for its archaeological remains, located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
After visiting Moray, we will go on our horses to our own picnic spot, a quiet and relaxing place away from the bustle of tourists from where we will have a privileged view of the mountains and snow-capped mountains such as Chicón, Puma Huanca, Sahuasiray, Pitusiray. After our lunch/picnic in this relaxing place we will head towards the salt mines passing through the town of Maras.
After the visit to Maras, we will continue the trip for approximately an hour and a half towards the salt mines, traveling along picturesque roads and enjoying spectacular landscapes. (If the group feels tired we give them the option of continuing the tour by transport)

The Maras Salt Mines are located 40 km from the city of Cuzco and at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level. It covers a large area on the slopes of the hills made up of some 3,000 natural pools of salt water of about 5 m2 from which salt is extracted for human consumption.
The exploitation of these mines dates back to the Incan period and the ancestral method of obtaining salt is still appreciated. These mines represent a source of employment for the inhabitants of Maras and neighboring towns.
At the end of the visit to the salt mines, we will continue our journey to Pichingoto, a community nestled in the Sacred Valley of the Incas at the base of the Qoriq'aqya mountain, on the banks of the Urubamba River, whose name comes from pichinco (bird) and g'oto (goiter) because it is said that its inhabitants believed themselves to be descendants of birds and goiter was the common disease among those who consumed salt without treatment. It is a Quechua community, dedicated primarily to agricultural activity. They cultivate with the help of a yoke or plow pulled by oxen. The participation of the townspeople in the productive activity is in the form of "Ayni" (ancestral custom of mutual help). The complementary economic activity is the extraction of salt in the mines of Maras and Qoropujio near the town. We will have the opportunity to appreciate the caves where the ancient settlers lived and stored their crops. Some caves were located at high levels in the mountain and to reach them they climbed with the help of ropes and ladders.
At the end of the visit to the town of Pichingoto, we will cross the Vilcanota River to reach the track that leads from Urubamba to Ollantaytambo. From here, we will have the choice of taking transport to the city of Cusco or to the town of Ollantaytambo.
