Itinerario
Early in the morning at the hotel after an explanation of our tours and delivery of the respective material such as: The program, the contract and conditions of service; we will pick you up in our transport to the town of Maras, passing through the Chinchero plateau and spectacular landscapes.
Our horses will be waiting for you at the Chinchero Paradero, where we will begin the adventure on horseback. After an introduction to the world of horse riding and the characteristics of the Peruvian Paso horse, we will have a time of familiarization with our respective noble horses. To begin our ride through spectacular landscapes and panoramic views towards the Piuray lagoon.
The Piuray Lagoon supplies water to the city of Cusco since the time of the Incas who brought their water to the Imperial City through underground aqueducts.
Likewise, the Piuray Lagoon holds in its waters an ancient legend in which the Sun God asked Manco Capac that his twin sons accompany him in his twilight and when the time came, they discovered that the son who walked the furthest had become the Huaypo Lagoon and the daughter the Piuray Lagoon.
After touring the shores of the lagoon, we will head past the town of Chinchero towards the beautiful Huaypo Lagoon, with crystal-clear waters and rich in a great variety of fish, which is located 44 km from the city of Cuzco.
According to legend, the Sun God asked Manco Capac that his twin sons accompany him in his twilight. When the time came, they discovered that the son, who walked the furthest, had become the Huaypo Lagoon and the daughter the Piuray Lagoon.
Throughout the walk, you will enjoy the natural beauty of the region for its varied flora and fauna in which migratory and native birds stand out. You will also learn about the agricultural activity carried out by the farmers in the area.
At midday we will arrive at the Huaypo lagoon where we will have our picnic on the shores of the relaxing Huaypo lagoon.
After the picnic and having some time to enjoy the lagoon, we will begin our horseback ride towards the peasant community where we will interact with the local residents who will be waiting for us with great joy to share pleasant moments; and receive us in their homes where we will spend the night. The next day they will teach us the secrets of textiles, explaining the entire process.
After having breakfast and enjoying the beautiful sunrise, we will have a demonstration of textiles by the women of the community, then we will say goodbye to the families who hosted us in their homes and then we will begin our ascent to the Wañin viewpoint, from where we will have a spectacular and panoramic view of the entire Sacred Valley of the Incas, the Urubamba mountain range and the sacred snow-capped mountains of Chicón, Ausangate and Salkantay.
After taking the photographs, we will begin to descend towards the archaeological complex of Moray located at 3,385 meters above sea level and 38 km northwest of the capital of the Inca Empire. As we descend, we will have a privileged and panoramic view of the entire archaeological complex of Moray as if we were looking from an airplane.
Moray is an important archaeological complex in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, one of its most interesting attractions being the Inca agricultural “greenhouses” or “laboratories” consisting of circular terraces built in large holes that were used to preserve seeds and crops.
After lunch we will continue our tour to the Maras salt mines, or salt mines, as they are also known, located 40 km from the city of Cuzco and at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level, which constitute a large area of salt extraction for human consumption dating back to pre-Columbian times. These mines are made up of around 3,000 natural pools of salt water, about 5 m2 in size, located on the slopes of the hills and you can still see the ancestral method for obtaining salt. The salt mines represent an important source of work for the inhabitants of Maras and other nearby towns.
After visiting the salt mines we will continue our journey towards the Vilcanota River until we reach the Pichingoto Bridge, where our transportation will be waiting for us to return to the hotel.
